Advanced Surface Treatment Highlighted at the American Academy of ophthalmology (AAO) 2006 Meeting
Advanced Surface Laser treatment was prominently featured at the 2006 AAO meeting, as some of the country's leading opthalmologists emphasized the unique advantages to using the Advanced Surface treatment.
- Dr. Marguerite McDonald spoke about two recent clinical studies regarding the Advanced Surface Treatment versus wavefront-guided LASIK. Dr. McDonald says that surface treatment eliminates flap-related problems and improves astigmatism, contrast sensitivity, and patient satisfaction.
- Dr. William Dupps Jr. of the Cleveland Clinic views Advanced Surface Treatment as safer than LASIK with more predictable results. Dr. Dupps noted that corneal flap creation and manipulation is eliminated with surface ablation, which reduces the risk of surgical complications.
- In a study that measured the clinical results of 1,294 eyes over a two year period, Dr. Seyed Javad Hashemian noted that the surface procedure “provided superior results in visual predictability and results.”
- Dr. James McCulley of the University of Texas stated the there is no evidence to support the notion that refractive surgery causes chronic dry eye, but rather that pre-existing conditions are exacerbated by the creation of a LASIK flap.
